To be sustainable is two-fold.
First, it means we are intentional about adding back organic matter – what is eventual humus – to the soil as a part of our agricultural practices. This adds nutrients to the soil so we may continue to grow organically.
This can include:
- Cover cropping – summer and winter
- Adding bark & tree mulch that decomposes in place
- Adding compost to the rows in which we grow the crops
- Adding manure to the field and compost from local farms
Sustainability also means, to us as a farm business, that we are able to continue to operate as a business. The only word for that is that we must make a profit so we can continue. Any business can not survive without and neither can we.
We recognize that you have a choice so we produce the best quality products so you recognize a worthwhile difference.
